Obituary Depot is the outgrowth of a small project we started in 2000 on our Cemetery Junction site. What we expected to be a nice little database, rapidly grew beyond our expectations. To give obituaries more visibility, we created this separate (but well-linked) area just for obituary seekers.

We also re-engineered the database to improve search performance and to accommodate additional countries. In addition to obituaries (and obituary sources) from the United States, Canada and Australia, we are also collecting citations from Germany, South Africa, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Hungary, Greece, Italy and New Zealand.

If you live in one of these countries, or have access to newspapers from these regions, you can help your fellow researchers by taking a few minutes to transcribe the obituaries using our simple online form.

The database is not limited to just current obituaries, so if you have access to old copies of newspapers, you may index them as well. The database is build by volunteers and will always remain a free resource for genealogists.
